Postcontrast Fat Suppression MR Image in Head and Neck

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with contrast (Gadopentetate dimeglumine) enhancement in normal and abnormal tissues can be obscured by strong signal intensity from adjacent fatty tissue and this is most pronounced in extracranial head and neck.
Authors evaluated the value of using fat suppression technique provided by Toshiba 0.5 T unit which is a modified Dixon method originally published in 1984. In 61 patients referred for MRI of the head and neck, additional coronal psotcontrast fat
suppression images were obtained and extra conventional T1 weighted coronal images and precontrast fat suppression spin echo (SE) images were obtained in 18 patients. In detecting and defining lesions, fat suppressed images were superior in all
cases of
extracranial abnormalities including trauma, infection and tumors.
